Blue Cross Blue Shield – TX

Project Type: Medical Office

The Texas headquarters for Blue Cross Blue Shield was not only large — KDC’s biggest project to date — it was also completed quickly, in just 22 months. BCBS wanted an efficient and flexible space. It also wanted the space secure, with one point of entry for everyone entering the building. They also needed a large conference and training area. KDC delivered on all fronts.

The building was designed with two office towers, and, after work had already begun, the decision was made to accelerate construction. Both towers would be completed at the same time. That meant completing the project — more than 1 million square feet — in less than two years.

Among those million square feet is 80,000 square feet of conference and training space on the first and second floors and a large lobby that allows all employees and visitors to be funneled through one entry point. The office space used a simple rectangle design on all floors. It also utilized raised flooring for wire management and a limited number of drywall partitions, demountable partitions were used instead.
