FBI

Project Type: GSA Office

Building any government facility comes with its own unique set of challenges. Those challenges are doubled when it’s a building for the FBI. On top of having to meet the government’s enhanced requirements for an environmentally friendly building, there are also security concerns. So when the KDC and the FBI teamed to build a new field office in Utah they used a design and construction team that had experience developing that kind of facility. But the challenges didn’t end with security and environmental requirements. The facility was being developed on an existing site. During demolition of the existing building, asbestos that hadn’t been previously mentioned was discovered. Abatement meant a setback, but KDC carefully coordinated the work to bring the project back on schedule, and, in the end, the building achieved LEED Gold certification.
