Home for Hugs Opens a New Chapter in Downtown McKinney, Texas
07/16/26 | KDC Announcements
The doors are officially open at the new Home for Hugs, giving Hugs Café Inc. a beautiful new headquarters designed to expand training, opportunity and community impact. Thanks to our incredible team of partners, the $10 million facility is ready to help even more individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities prepare for meaningful employment.
Located at 221 Andrews St. in downtown McKinney, the new 13,500-square-foot headquarters brings Hugs Café, the Hugs Training Academy and administrative offices together under one roof for the first time. The space features a commercial training kitchen, four classrooms, collaborative learning areas, flexible workspaces, an outdoor patio and a rooftop deck—all created to support hospitality training and workforce development.
Construction began in May 2025, with KDC serving as developer, Corgan as architect, Brasfield & Gorrie as general contractor and Valliance Bank providing strategic financial support.
Making the Home for Hugs possible was truly a community effort. Support came from KDC, H-E-B, Sammons Enterprises Inc., Compatriot Capital, CA Hartnell, Brasfield & Gorrie, Lynn Family Foundation, McKinney Community Development Corporation, McKinney Arts Commission, The Mabee Foundation, Tomes Auto Group, Sue and Gary Reichling, FS Foundation, the Hugs Board and many individual donors.
Founded in 2015 by Ruth Thompson, Hugs Café has grown into a nationally recognized nonprofit with two café locations, two Hugs Training Academies and a growing network of affiliate partners. The new Home for Hugs is more than a building—it's a place where skills are built, confidence grows and new opportunities begin every day.
Congratulations to Hugs Café Inc. and the many partners whose generosity turned this inspiring vision into a place that will serve the community for years to come.
