A revitalized community center is always a reason to celebrate. Cedar Crest Community Center in South Dallas received a much-needed restoration, thanks to generous donors, including Dallas-area sports heroes and the commercial real estate community. Led by Behind Every Door, KDC joined with Corgan, Kimley Horn, Balfour Beatty and Jordan Skala to complete the planning and construction of the 50-year-old facility.

Local nonprofit Behind Every Door purchased the Cedar Crest Community Center in partnership with Veritex Community Bank, the Dallas Cowboys, NFL Foundation, pro golfers Jordan Spieth and Scottie Scheffler, and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw. The community center, located at 1007 Hutchins Road, was previously owned by the Salvation Army.

Once KDC learned of the renovation plans, we quickly jumped on board to help guide the development process.

“KDC remains committed to using our build-to-suit skills to assist nonprofits in creating facilities that serve the local community and make the world a better place,” said Steve Van Amburgh, KDC CEO. “The Cedar Crest Community Center is an essential part of its community, and we were very pleased to see it restored for generations to come.”

This eight-acre property includes a 20,000-square-foot community center, a 4,000-square-foot worship center, and a full-size football and baseball field. The center is surrounded by more than 17,000 neighbors, including 1,000 teens and children who attend elementary and high schools within a quarter mile. Cedar Crest serves as a major sports hub and enrichment center for South Dallas and the broader Dallas community.
