Development Associate

  • 8 years of experience
  • 4 years at KDC

Sports have always been a huge part of Chad Hedlund’s life – his father was a professional soccer player, and Hedlund played Division I football in college for Wake Forest University and Southern Methodist University. And now, Hedlund is applying all the lessons he learned on the field to his role as a development associate with KDC.

“Sports taught me how to work well within a team, how to perform with integrity, and how to lead effectively,” Hedlund says. “Those skills, combined with my competitive nature, guide me professionally.”

Hedlund joined KDC as an intern in 2021 and quickly gained a full-time position as a development associate. In his current role, he reports directly to KDC CIO Scott Ozymy and dedicates his time to analyzing the financials and economics of real estate deals.

Hedlund is attracted to the stability that commercial real estate offers, yet he also appreciates its dynamism.

Commercial real estate has a level of complexity that keeps you on your toes and requires continuous learning.

Prior to his work with KDC, Hedlund comes from a background in real estate finance, as he previously worked within the commercial real estate group of the valuation firm, Duff & Phelps. Hedlund was so intrigued by the commercial real estate sector, he soon realized that he wanted to pursue an advanced degree with a real estate focus. Attracted to Southern Methodist University’s vast network of commercial real estate professionals and its strong real estate program, Hedlund decided to obtain his MBA from the Cox School of Business. He is on track to graduate in late 2021.

A native of North Texas who grew up in Argyle, Hedlund headed east to North Carolina for college. He attended Wake Forest University where he was a four-year scholarship athlete, playing for the Demon Deacons football team before obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in economics and communications.

Golf is Hedlund’s preferred sport nowadays. He also likes to play chess and try his hand at darts and billiards.

Hedlund is focused on staying fit, and in addition to working out, he also enjoys spending time outdoors. Whenever he gets the opportunity, he likes to hike in high-altitude locations.

Hedlund hopes to explore all 50 states in America. So far, he’s seen about 70% of the states. Some day he also wants to take another trip to Europe. He has his eye set on countries such as France, Greece, and Sweden because he has a lot of Swedish ties in his family.
