The award was presented to KDC during a conference at the Dallas Country Club.
This is KDC’s fourth time to receive the honor. The company was previously named “Developer of Year” in 2009, 2003 and 1997.
“We are honored to have received this award in a market with so many tough competitors. It’s testament to the relationships the KDC team has built over many years with our valued clients and the brokerage community. Our success depends on them,” said Steve Van Amburgh, CEO of KDC. As “Developer of the Year,” KDC was recognized for its many development and leasing accomplishments during the past year. In January, 2011, KDC broke ground on EnCana’s 320,000-square-foot, Class A, 12-story regional headquarters in Plano, Texas, which will open in May, two months ahead of schedule. In March 2011, KDC leased 535,000-square-feet of office space at 901 Central (the former BlueCross BlueShield of Texas headquarters) in Richardson, Texas, to Fossil Partners, L.P. The move allowed Fossil to consolidate its headquarters under one roof and expand its rapidly growing operations. As part of the transaction, KDC acquired Fossil’s two corporate office buildings and a distribution center. KDC is currently in the process of redeveloping and is actively seeking new tenants for the now vacant former Fossil buildings. In addition, KDC continued its joint venture with Digital Realty, the world’s largest wholesale data center provider, to develop data centers in target markets across the U.S. KDC currently has seven data centers either completed or under construction for Digital Realty totaling 790,000 square feet. NAIOP also recognized KDC for the162,000-square-foot regional headquarters for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Salt Lake City, Utah, which is scheduled for completion in October. “2011 was a year during which we were able to showcase our full complement of services,” said Toby Gove, president of KDC. “From corporate build-to-suit and data center development, to redevelopment and re-tenanting, we appreciate the trust our clients and partners have placed in KDC.” NAIOP's “Developer of the Year” award is presented annually in recognition of an organization's outstanding achievements. Candidates are nominated by the board of directors and are judged on the following criteria: quality of products and services; ability to adapt to market conditions; strong reputation in the real estate and general business communities; and active involvement in NAIOP.
